Plain paper books offer many benefits. At the same time, they have some severe limitations: they are heavy (look at what children have to carry to school), difficult to search for information, and cannot be updated easily. E-books provide solutions for several of these drawbacks. Nemoptic displays based on BiNem® technology are a perfect fit for e-books due to:

high resolution (up to 400 dpi);
best contrast in the market for e-paper, up to 8:1 (at 200 dpi, reflective mode);
• zero-power need for display once the page is set;
• a fast refreshing capability, without any blinking effect;
mass-production, compatible on existing LCD lines;
• future evolution: BiNem® Color displays.

According to market data, in 2005, worldwide e-book sales were up 23% from 2004 - to just under $12 million*, which can be considered as premises of an explosive growth, with a 35% CAGR (Compounded Annual Growth Rate) expected from 2006 to 2010**.
Improvement in ergonomy and interactivity of e-books opens up a big niche in textbook or professional handbook publishing, (e.g. the medical sector).
